Newsboy Cap and an Earring

This woman told me she was (but I’d like to say is) a model.  She looks pretty stunning to me. I especially like the large circular earring that she shows off by draping her hair to one side beneath her newsboy cap.

From Head to Toe

So here’s what I’ve come to realize about my obsession with hats…I think I’m drawn to the capped passersby because their outfits literally extend from head to toe.  The right hat really takes an ensemble to the next level.  Besides this man’s fedora, I also appreciate the splash of color he has shining out from his suit jacket.  In fact, he reminds me a little of the man in the pin striped suit.

I spotted this woman’s beautiful mink coat from behind and followed her across a busy New York crosswalk until I was able to ask for her picture.  When she turned around I was even more pleased to see the deep red sunglasses and lipstick.  Very glamorous.

Tailor’s Man

This man has always gone to a tailor. It definitely shows.  He told me that, “Women shop and men have tailors.”  I wouldn’t mind a tailor myself!  I especially appreciate the pale yellow sweater he has poking out beneath the layers of brown.  Lovely color combination.

The Upper East Side

What a treat to shoot Granpaparazzi pictures in New York.  This woman is no stranger to the camera.  Apparently she’s been asked to have her picture taken in this fabulous coat before.

Gray Fedora

man in fedora Gray Fedora

My friends joke that this isn’t really a seniors fashion blog, but rather a hat blog.  What can I say, I’m a sucker for a man in a fedora!  Doesn’t he look great?

This man’s got class!  A little taste of old school Italy stands out in the overcrowded streets of the 2010 Olympic Games.

Sight

After taking this dapper gentleman’s photo, I gave him my card and suggested he visit granpaparazzi.com if he wants to see his photo. He told me that wouldn’t do him much good because he’s blind. And I had to wonder, how does someone dress so well when they can’t see? How would I dress if I lost my sight? I suppose I would wear what I’ve got in my closet already, which I suspect is the case with this gentleman. But would I stay stuck in time?  Or maybe I would only wear one color as to not clash, but would I then be drab? With all these questions buzzing around my head, I turned to the Internet and discovered that there are options for the fashionable blind and visually impaired. I found  a  blog in progress (blogress) for blind fashionistas called whitecanelabel.com that claims to be developing interactive software where visitors can hear the blog posts as well as read them. If you are visually impaired or simply have a hard time spotting coveted looks on the runway, there is a technology being developed by the University of Derby in the UK where models wear a bar code on their wrists which is swiped across a sensor, prompting an audio recording describing what the model is wearing.  The options appear few, but the possibilities are many.

Who knew that a leather cap could add such charm to a pin-striped suit? These little additions make all the difference.  Notice the pin on the lapel – lovely.

Leopard Spots and a Chapeau

I’ve always appreciated an experienced thrift queen! Doesn’t she look lovely? According to this lady’s walking companion, she can throw together quite the ensemble if you give her some time in a thrift store.   There was even talk of a five dollar fashion show…
