Q & A

How does GranPaparazzi.com get their pictures?

We bring our cameras with us wherever we go and make a point of going out to find fashionable seniors. We approach people on the street, explain what we’re doing and if we’re lucky (about 50 percent of the time), they agree to having their picture taken.

How do we know each other?

We met through university and media projects that we have been involved in.

How did the site begin?

Cass and Leni shot senior fashion photos for the 2008 issue of Lester’s Army Magazine and got such a good response that we decided to create a spin off fashion blog called GranPaparazzi.com.

Why is it important to connect the public with seniors?

  • Seniors are ignored by most media, especially fashion media, where 25 years old is over the hill.
  • We appreciate senior style and see it recycled into contemporary fashion.
  • Young people don’t have enough contact with older generations and GranPaparazzi.com allows us to connect face-to-face with seniors in our communities. We hope it encourages our readers to do the same.

Who is in charge?

GranPaparazzi is a non-hierarchically run collective, meaning everyone does everything, bringing their unique skills to the project. We equally share credit for the work that we do. We are all co-founders, editors, photographers and social media contributors.

What are your future ambitions?

To have contributors from all over the world, documenting senior fashion from Milwaukee to Milan. We aspire to grow the project and continue collaborating with other like-minded organizations interested in honoring our elders and bringing senior culture to light.

Beyond Robson

“GranPaparazzi takes fashion photo journalism from the rarified (albeit glorious) world of Garace Dore and The Sartorialist to the lesser seen Golden Years. Apart from being a salute to a much neglected demographic, the blog cleverly showcases the cyclical nature of fashion. Sooooo needed!” ~ I Blog Fashion

“These people are genius. This is absolutely my favourite blog to follow right now. I’ve always loved the amazing style that many seniors carry with them from the days when every man and woman had a few good hats, and they knew the value of a well taylored suit. Check it out!”      ~ Working it Out

“I’m 55 but it’s so inspiring to see stylish older folks.  Sometimes I think I try too hard to dress younger, but this site reminds me it’s possible to look fabulous no matter how old you get.”      ~ QVC

“The blog offers wonderful photos of seniors wearing great clothing while also offering fashion advice and even offering viewpoints on fashion debates such as the ethics of using fur.”         ~ Home Helpers NYC

“You’ll love this blog, its soo unpretentious. It will make you smile and inspire you –no end! I’ve always been a fan of ‘OAP’ chic and the above photos show we have lots to learn from our seniors.” ~ Fashion et al

I would be interested in having my blog included in your line-up, as I am orginally from Vancouver, and enjoyed seeing the photos taken there. I now live in England, and I suppose I am technically a “senior” although I don’t really feel like it. I qualify for a bus pass, which in England means you have to be 60. I’m not admitting anything other than that! My blog is http://www.foreveronthecatwalkoflife.com Hope to join GranPaparazzi. My blog is also listed on “blogs we love” at http://www.stylecrone.com who is too gorgeous to be a real person, but she is!
