Black Hat

A smart and playful look – peach pants, orange socks, white shoes and a black hat. You wouldn’t think they would look great together, but they do!

I just fell in love with this woman’s look – I sort of picture myself looking like this at her age….one can only hope! Her choice of crimson for lipstick and nails as well as her stunningly beautiful jewelry (of which I wish I had better close ups) made her stand out from the crowds on Davie Street. One word – striking!

This guy looked too cool in his straw hat and shades for me to let him pass by. He also sports an old leather backpack that matches his brown loafers and cane. A lovely end of summer outfit.

The beautiful shawl this woman carries was gifted to her by a friend while en-route to Paris. Having forgotten a jacket, she used this shawl almost every night and even slept with it a time or two.

This woman has a really fun-loving way about her and her outfit speaks to this quality. I love the silk turquoise blouse and that she chose to tie it in the middle, a favorite trick of mine.

When I approached this woman on the street for her photograph, she took my arm and led me to Gojo Cafe, an Ethiopian restaurant on Commercial Drive where I’ve eaten many times (it has some of the best food in the hood). When we arrived her daughter translated what I was saying. She agreed to be photographed in her restaurant which is all earth tones and warmth. I love her chunky geometric earrings and bold animal prints.

This woman is the perfect picture of West Coast senior style, standing under the British Columbia Coat of Arms no less. Casual, comfortable, black with bursts of color, and of course great hair and glasses.

I took this photo just moments before Spain won the World Cup and this alley filled with Spanish teenagers painted from head to toe. My muse, this elegant woman, told me her fashion secret is to stick with the classics and I can’t agree more. Imagine how much beer you could drink and it would never show in this outfit!

This woman has collected over thirty purses! She explained that it is actually quite practical to have an abundance of purses because they don’t wear out from overuse and therefore you don’t need to replace them so often. I like her logic! Unfortunately you can’t see her cute purple hand bag here very well, but check out a close up of her broach and shades below.

The wind came as a surprise when I was taking this woman’s photograph but it makes her cropped shag look even more punk rock. She’s totally glam!
