I attended the  Whistler Film Festival opening gala Wednesday night with my husband, who worked on the opening movie Daydream Nation and there were dozens of gorgeous, fabulously dressed seniors. This woman is the aunt of Reece Thompson, one of the leads in the film. She told me she is a costume designer by trade and can always count on looking chic in her white cotton shirt.

Wayne caught my eye from across the room and when I complimented him on his look he said he’s not entirely happy with his haircut, as it used to be a huge fro. I told him his hair looks great, as is. I love his youthful look!

This sultry looking fellow refused to be photographed alone, so this lovely young woman with mile long lashes posed with him. He’s got that Neil Diamond look going for him: long scarf, silver chain and the most brilliant white teeth (and not just because of the flash).

Some things, like leopard print scarves, will be in style for a long time and I don’t mind!  Whether you are Joan Jett or her grandmother, a little leopard print is going to look great (especially with some large fashion sunglasses!).

I took this photo just moments before Spain won the World Cup and this alley filled with Spanish teenagers painted from head to toe. My muse, this elegant woman, told me her fashion secret is to stick with the classics and I can’t agree more. Imagine how much beer you could drink and it would never show in this outfit!

Often I look at this type of fashion on young hipsters and I wonder ‘would that still look good on an older person? or is being young what makes the outfit work?’ Often in hipster fashion being young is what makes an outfit tolerable, but in the case of this silk polka dot collared dress, it’s sexy at any age. This is the type of clothing I want to be stocking my closet with not the stuff I’ll look back at and say ‘What was I thinking!’

I hurried after this woman as she left the Bay, keeping her red shoelaces and hip sneakers in my sightline.   Although you can’t quite see the detail here, her Keds are playfully decorated with cartoon drawings.  She told me that she walks a lot and so practical shoes are a must.  I agree!

This woman is kickin’ it old school in light denim head to toe. She told me she has lived in San Francisco for most of her life and now resides in the gorgeous Buena Vista Terrace, an old Christian Science church converted to seniors housing on Haight Street. She’s seen the neighborhood change from hippy haven to a post card of the past.

Where is all the sunshine hiding? San Francisco! I spotted this woman in The Castro, where there is no shortage of funky and fabulously stylish seniors. Yet another tribute to pink and red.

Vancouver has many harbours, so it’s common for the Granpaparazzi to cruise the waterfront looking for great senior style. This woman embodies Vancouver west coast style in the best possible way. Comfortable, gray and black and a lot of light in the eyes.

I caught this woman in the middle of a protest in the Downtown East Side, in full swing. She posed for a moment and pranced on into the crowd. I adore the plaid jacket mixed with this Mexican-meets-gypsy ensemble.

This gentleman is the most put together subject I have ever shot. He said that he follows his mother’s style advice to this day: don’t be afraid to spend money on a good suit, it will last longer and you will look like a million bucks.
