I hurried after this woman as she left the Bay, keeping her red shoelaces and hip sneakers in my sightline. Although you can’t quite see the detail here, her Keds are playfully decorated with cartoon drawings. She told me that she walks a lot and so practical shoes are a must. I agree!

I’d expect nothing less of an opera singer. He performs every Sunday at Cambrian Hall on Main Street. Rakish!

A six-days-a-week aerobics regime keeps this 71 year old in top condition! Her high-rise hat has a magisterial flavor I couldn’t resist and her outfit matches her personality — fun!

This gentleman is currently dating Miss Kitsilano 1954 and she keeps him on top of his game when it comes to style. He finds regular clothing stores too high brow and too expensive. This sharp suit is from Value Village, a classic stop for treasure hunters and thrifty shoppers.

I’m running down Homer Street in Vancouver trying to catch up with a mysterious woman in a straw hat. She walks into a building and I follow her inside to discover my new favorite store: Button Button, a store dedicated entirely to buttons of all shapes and sizes. The woman in the custom made pant suit is the owner, Colleen Miller and her patrons are equally stylish. A fabulous find!

This man’s name is Floyd and he’s a cowboy through and through. He used to ride in the Calgary Stampede and told me a story about getting a bull horn through the chest, piercing all the way to his spine, just missing it. His cigar smoke stained beard and worn suede jacket tell his story.

Here’s clear evidence that West Coast skate style was inspired by classic utilitarian work wear. These Dickies look like they’ve seen an actual factory or two and the chain is probably holding down a wad of life savings. This man said he’d rather be photographed in his Legion suit but he was obliging nonetheless. I wish I’d paid attention to his button but I imagine it’s a labour slogan.

Almost 90, this retired ballerina was so incognito I momentarily mistook her for a modern celeb. Her bowler hat and stage makeup blew my mind. This beautiful woman was no doubt famous in her prime.

This woman was so jazzed about having her photo taken she did a plié after the photo shoot. As style hunters for the 60+ set, it’s the kind of moment we love.
Print mixing is a difficult art and I’m not 100% on board with the animal print and pinstripes here. Her black and gold accents pull everything together but do the patterns jibe? Anyone have an eye for pattern mashing?
