The corrugated steel of Granville Island makes a great backdrop. This woman, in particular, seemed to sparkle against the industrial feel of the place. The chic black turban isn’t her usual choice for headwear but it’s totally ’40s and totally amazing.
This casual blend of dark layers is nicely tied together by this man’s plaid scarf. I originally photographed him with his jacket buttoned, but he insisted on showing me his under layers. What appears to be a fanny pack around his waist is actually a hand-stitched green cloth with a lion on it that has important symbolic significance to this man.
Originally from France, this woman has tailoring in her blood. She designed her own clothing as a child and later made one-of-a-kind pieces for clients. Her hair, however, is what stops people on the street. Luscious!!
This woman told me she was (but I’d like to say is) a model. She looks pretty stunning to me. I especially like the large circular earring that she shows off by draping her hair to one side beneath her newsboy cap.

So here’s what I’ve come to realize about my obsession with hats…I think I’m drawn to the capped passersby because their outfits literally extend from head to toe. The right hat really takes an ensemble to the next level. Besides this man’s fedora, I also appreciate the splash of color he has shining out from his suit jacket. In fact, he reminds me a little of the man in the pin striped suit.
I spotted this woman’s beautiful mink coat from behind and followed her across a busy New York crosswalk until I was able to ask for her picture. When she turned around I was even more pleased to see the deep red sunglasses and lipstick. Very glamorous.

Though still very dapper in his pin striped suit, there is also a distinctly playful element to this man’s wardrobe. And you know what, I like it. Leather gloves poking out of his pocket, patterned tie, bright colored vest, a paperboy cap and a maple leaf pin sure works for me.
A radiant ensemble of warm colors. This woman stood out among Vancouver winter grays and blacks. Notice how her printed pashmina and handbag highlight her beautiful hair.
I love this woman’s curls. She takes the common older woman’s perm and lets it go long. It shaves off at least a few decades. I was shocked to find out her age. Her leather jacket and tortoiseshell sunglasses are also age defying.
