What outrageously cool hair and bona fide boho style.  So radiant!  She was in a wedding party with Vancouver shoe designer John Fluevog many years ago.

Beautiful Blue

I caught this beautiful woman on a gorgeous winter day full of sun. Her bright color choice was accessorized perfectly with shiny black riding boots and classic Coco Chanel shades. What you don’t see are layers of that same blue tone on the shirt beneath her jacket and repeated again on a blue tartan wrap beneath the knitted toque, which is open in the back. This smart layering of color and texture made her more captivating than the blue sky above us.

European accent? Check!  Funky Cons?  Check! Whimsical scarf? With stripes!

This look is pretty common in most cities around the world but in Vancouver it’s a rare guy over 50 who wears this type of thing.  He looks great and I love his warm smile.

Cabbie

A New York native with a unique flair for fashion, it’s no secret that this California cab driver marches to the beat of her own drum with her dramatic sparkly sunglasses, Venetian mask earrings and loud checkered shirt.

A style as distinct as her story, she reflects with fondness on how she made the brave move west to San Diego in the 1960′s, back when the city was much smaller, quieter, and rife with young sailors. In the years since, she has watched the city around her grow in leaps and bounds to become the buzzing metropolis it is today, all from behind the windows of her yellow taxi cab.

Vancouver’s gray skies make an amateur photographer’s job doubly hard when taking photos outside, but this woman in her gorgeous long black coat saved the day and stood out above all the blown-out clutter and reflective surfaces of the city.

Sight

After taking this dapper gentleman’s photo, I gave him my card and suggested he visit granpaparazzi.com if he wants to see his photo. He told me that wouldn’t do him much good because he’s blind. And I had to wonder, how does someone dress so well when they can’t see? How would I dress if I lost my sight? I suppose I would wear what I’ve got in my closet already, which I suspect is the case with this gentleman. But would I stay stuck in time?  Or maybe I would only wear one color as to not clash, but would I then be drab? With all these questions buzzing around my head, I turned to the Internet and discovered that there are options for the fashionable blind and visually impaired. I found  a  blog in progress (blogress) for blind fashionistas called whitecanelabel.com that claims to be developing interactive software where visitors can hear the blog posts as well as read them. If you are visually impaired or simply have a hard time spotting coveted looks on the runway, there is a technology being developed by the University of Derby in the UK where models wear a bar code on their wrists which is swiped across a sensor, prompting an audio recording describing what the model is wearing.  The options appear few, but the possibilities are many.
