All eyes are on Lucille, dignified and stunning. Lucille is the second retired model I’ve met on East Broadway today. She is 90 years old, born in Vancouver and she tells me she modeled stockings in the 1930′s. My fave part of this outfit is her hair! Seniors always have such enviable hair.

This outfit embodies what I want to wear this fall. Bright colors and mixed bold patterns (notice the plaid shirt, swirly patterned shoes, vertical line down the jeans and circular detail of the belt). This woman told me she was a model in Poland 35 years ago. We always complain about weight in the modeling world, where tell me, is the age representation? Do we have to wait for Beth Ditto to get her senior card, or will there be a revolutionary designer bringing back maturity?
Thank you Eva!

A sharp, refreshing and youthful look for the summer. But even more lovely than this woman’s outfit is her hair. Gorgeous.

Art deco has haunted us since the ’30s, perhaps even drowned us, but wow, I have to admit, a good black and white art deco dress is timeless. This photo was taken at a co-op housing building in Downtown Vancouver called the Performing Arts Lodge (www.palvancouver.org), a seniors housing facility that caters to elderly artists.

I saw this woman in Victoria, B.C., a city with an enormously high population of seniors. My favorite part of her outfit is her hair. I didn’t get a shot of the back, but it was vaguely Andy Warhol, with her hair cut in a ridged line across the neck, slightly crooked. A jovial and creative spirit no doubt.

Underneath the yellow smock, John wears a crisp white shirt, a brown skinny tie and gray suit pants. A matching vest and jacket set hangs in the closet until he goes home at the end of the day.
John purchased this shop in 1959 and he’s retained much of its old timey style, as well as his own. Very cool old guy.
