Boom and Bust (with a hint of Paris)
Wednesday, April 15, 2009

This woman caught my eye from behind. Her belted brown swing coat with brown pants radiated a boyish 1920s style I don’t often see on older women. Her daughter-in-law picked out the coat but the oversize sunglasses, neckerchief and beret make the outfit all her own — without compromising her up-to-date image.
Her Louise Brooks bob, complete with fringe, cinches the boom-and-bust look. The white beret adds a dash of Montmartre.
She looks like she’s connected. I get the feeling that if I didn’t mind my manners around her, there is the slightest chance that she could have me killed. This is no-nonsense attire designed for getting around in style. It’s a rare woman that can pull of a white beret but this lady does it effortlessly.
